Nigeria Goes Global: Dangote Refinery Exports 1 Million Tons of Gasoline

The Dangote Refinery has hit a new milestone, exporting one million tons of gasoline in just 50 days, marking Nigeria’s emergence as a net exporter of refined fuel. Since launching gasoline exports in 2024, the $19 billion refinery has steadily expanded its global footprint, with shipments now reaching Asia, Saudi Arabia, and the US. This strategic growth is reshaping traditional trade flows, thereby posing a threat to Europe’s long-standing $17 billion fuel export market to Africa. The refinery, which now processes around 550,000 barrels per day, currently sources a significant portion of its crude from the US. However, it plans to rely entirely on Nigerian crude by year’s end. As Dangote tightens its supply chain and scales exports, it is helping to assert Nigeria as a formidable player in global energy markets.
