Kayoola: Uganda’s EV Bus Making Waves in Africa

In 2007, a team of students from a Ugandan university and their lecturers set out to manufacture the country’s first car. With government support, these students began to take steps to make their dream a reality, culminating in the establishment of Kiira Motors Corporation in 2014. Now, over a decade later, this company is making waves in the African automotive industry. It now manufactures several vehicles, including an electric bus, the Kayoola, which operates in Uganda and has been ordered by Tanzania, eSwatini, Nigeria, and South Africa. However, while KMC plans to build sufficient capacity to fully manufacture all the vehicle parts it uses, the company still imports many components.”
