Namibia Bets Big on Green Energy to Fuel Economic Comeback

Namibia is charting a bold path to reclaim its upper-middle-income status after a recent World Bank downgrade. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has unveiled a national plan targeting 7% annual economic growth and a $6,000 per capita income by 2030. The strategy hinges on green hydrogen, renewable energy, and value-added manufacturing to drive GDP expansion. The country also aims to boost renewable capacity to 700 megawatts and create 30,000 green jobs by 2030. Furthermore, Namibia plans to begin operations at its oil and gas discoveries by 2029. The goal is to channel revenue from these ventures—oil and gas, uranium, and green hydrogen—into investments that will boost the economy.
