Africa’s Infrastructure Race: The 10 Countries Leading the Charge

Without infrastructure, no nation can drive sustainable economic growth. Recognizing this, Africa is powering ahead with ambitious infrastructure investments across the energy, transportation, and digital infrastructure sectors. According to the latest rankings from the Africa Infrastructure Development Index (AIDI) 2024, Seychelles, Egypt, and Libya were at the forefront of infrastructure development in 2024. These three countries were closely followed by Mauritius, South Africa, and Tunisia, with Morocco, Algeria, Cabo Verde, and Botswana rounding out the top ten. While these nations lead the charge, other countries are following suit. For instance, Accra recently signed a deal with Abu Dhabi to develop a technology hub that will make Ghana a regional leader in artificial intelligence and innovation. Likewise, the Democratic Republic of Congo recently secured a $1 billion pledge from the World Bank for the construction of the world’s largest hydropower project.
