Travel Ban Expansion: Trump Admin Weighs 36 More Countries

The Trump administration is considering a sweeping expansion of its travel ban, potentially targeting citizens from 36 additional countries, according to a leaked State Department memo. Of the 36 countries, 25 are in Africa, including Nigeria, Egypt, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This development follows a recent proclamation restricting entry from 12 nations, part of a broader immigration crackdown amid Trump’s ongoing second term. The internal cable, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, cites concerns such as terrorism links, poor passport security, and lack of cooperation in deportations. The affected nations have 60 days to address these issues or face full or partial entry suspensions. If implemented, the new list would significantly broaden existing restrictions, echoing Trump’s controversial 2017 travel ban.
