Ruto Apologises to Tanzania Over Deportation Controversy

Kenyan President William Ruto has issued a public apology to Tanzania, aiming to defuse rising tensions sparked by the recent deportation of East African activists from Tanzania. The activists, including Kenya’s Boniface Mwangi, alleged mistreatment while in Tanzanian custody, igniting online outrage and a digital clash between citizens of both nations. Tanzanian lawmakers accused Kenyans of cyberbullying President Samia Suluhu and interfering in domestic affairs. Ruto extended an olive branch during a national prayer breakfast and also apologized to Kenya’s Gen Z critics. While Tanzania remains silent on the torture claims, some Tanzanian MPs called for civil dialogue. One such MP, Jesca Msambatavangu, invited young Kenyans to a WhatsApp debate.
