Her appeal, made in a YouTube video, comes ahead of fresh protests planned for August 30 and is notable as she is also the president’s sister-in-law. Gnassingbé, in power since 2005 after his father’s 38-year rule, has faced rising anger following constitutional changes allowing him indefinite tenure.
