Flutterwave Expands US Operations, Unlocks New Money Transfer Routes To Africa

Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, has officially relaunched its flagship Send App across several US states, offering expanded money transfer services to key African countries. The move follows Flutterwave’s acquisition of 20 new Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs) in the United States, adding to the 14 it already held since 2023. With a total of 34 direct licenses, Flutterwave now operates in more US states and territories without relying on third-party intermediaries.

This milestone enhances financial connectivity between African diaspora communities in the US and their families back home. Users can now send money to Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt, opening up remittance corridors that were previously unavailable on the platform.

The revamped Send App features a faster onboarding process, requiring only a quick ID check, alongside optimized support for US-issued Visa and Discover cards. Security upgrades and improved in-app navigation have also been rolled out to ensure smoother, safer transactions for customers.

States currently supported by the Send App include major African diaspora hubs such as Washington DC, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, South Carolina, and Tennessee, with additional coverage in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, emphasized the importance of this expansion:

“By enhancing our services and expanding our reach, we are empowering millions of Africans in the US to maintain strong financial ties with their home countries, support their families, and contribute to economic development across the continent. This reflects our mission of bridging Africa with the global economy.”

Earlier this year, Flutterwave also integrated its Swap FX service into the Send App for easier foreign exchange transactions and secured approval for inward remittances from the Bank of Ghana, strengthening its position in West Africa.

This latest development marks a significant step in Flutterwave’s ongoing strategy to provide accessible, secure, and regulation-compliant financial services for Africans around the world.
