Rwanda Cycling Competition to Proceed Despite DR Congo Concerns

Despite rising international concern over Rwanda’s alleged backing of the M23 militia in DR Congo, the country’s cycling federation says preparations for the 2025 Road World Championships in Kigali remain unaffected. Federation head Samson Ndayishimiye affirmed that sponsorship interest remains strong, citing ongoing talks with Volkswagen and a deal already secured with TotalEnergies. Ndayishimiye and Rwanda’s High Commissioner to the UK also stated that Kigali remains safe, in response to foreign officials who have raised questions about security. With expectations of up to 12,000 international visitors, Rwanda is banking on the event to boost tourism. However, criticism over Kigali’s ties to M23 continues to shadow its global sports ambitions, including high-profile sponsorships with European football clubs.
