Nigerian Diaspora Remitted Over $90 Billion in Five Years

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has revealed that diaspora Nigerians remitted over $90 billion in the past five years, significantly boosting the country’s economy. Dabiri-Erewa, who made this revelation during a workshop in Abuja, highlighted the need for accurate data collection on diaspora Nigerians. According to her, this will help the Nigerian government better understand the challenges, contributions, and opportunities within the Nigerian diaspora community. Dabiri-Erewa stated that such data would help her agency, NiDCOM, better harness diaspora contributions and channel them toward national development. With over 17 million Nigerians living abroad, experts stress the importance of policies that leverage their expertise and investments.
