Nairobi to Host First Pan-African Architecture Biennale

In 2026, Nairobi will host the first-ever Pan-African Biennale of Architecture—a bold new platform for African architects to reclaim their narrative. Curated by Somali-Italian architect Omar Degan, the event will unite creatives from all 54 African nations to spotlight African resilience, creativity, and identity on African terms. Rejecting Western models, Degan envisions a sensorial and inclusive experience that reflects Africa’s diversity and dynamism. The theme, Shifting the Center: From Fragility to Resilience, challenges outdated perceptions and celebrates a continental rebirth in art, politics, and design. With overwhelming interest from architects across the continent and diaspora, this Biennale promises to ignite a powerful new chapter in African architecture—rooted in self-definition and shared vision.
