Kenyans Chebet & Kipyegon Make History with Dual World Records

Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet lit up the Eugene Diamond League in Oregon, United States, with world-record-breaking runs. Kipyegon ran the 1500m in 3:48.68, breaking her own world record by 0.36 seconds mere weeks after narrowly missing a sub-four-minute mile. Chebet, meanwhile, followed with a stunning 13:58.06 in the 5,000m, smashing the previous record by more than two seconds. Their brilliance headlined a star-studded meet featuring Olympic champions and record-holders. British athletes Matt Hudson-Smith and Zharnel Hughes impressed with season’s bests in the 400m and 100m, respectively. Dutchman Niels Laros stole the Bowerman Mile in a photo finish, and Sweden’s Armand Duplantis won first place in the pole vault. As the Diamond League moves to Monaco, the performances so far have intensified anticipation for what many believe will be a thrilling summer in athletics.
