A new report by the African Energy Chamber reveals that Africa’s share of renewables in its power generation mix is projected to rise from 27% today to over 40% by 2030. The report highlights that geothermal and hydropower energy are already powering East and West Africa, offering cleaner alternatives compared to the fossil fuel-heavy north and south. Hydropower currently dominates in nations like Ethiopia and DR Congo, contributing up to 90% of their power mix. However, vast untapped potential exists in solar and wind energy, promising an exciting transformation in Africa’s energy landscape. This clean energy surge not only boosts sustainability but also opens up fresh opportunities for economic growth across the continent.
