Ethiopian Records Leads First Boiler Room Set in Ethiopia

Popular underground dance music organizer and promoter, Boiler Room, has had its first-ever event in Ethiopia, and it is nothing short of revolutionary. Curated by Ethiopian Records—a trailblazer in the country’s underground music scene—the set fused Ethiopiyawi electronic, Azmari, and Ethio-jazz in a celebration of sound and identity. Filmed at Addis Ababa’s Moseb Music Center, the show featured an intergenerational lineup of artists, blending tradition with innovation. The project, part of Boiler Room’s Broadcast Lab series, emerged from nearly 20 years of sonic exploration by Ethiopian Records. In his interview, he reflects on reclaiming space in a global industry not built for African voices. With this event, he sent a clear message: with support and vision, African creatives can redefine the world stage.
