Diplomatic Drama: Uganda and Germany Clash Over Envoy Allegations

Uganda’s military abruptly cut ties with Germany on Sunday, alleging “subversive activities” by Mathias Schauer, Berlin’s ambassador to Kampala. However, Germany has strongly denied the accusations, calling them “absurd and without any merit.” Uganda’s military spokesperson and top commander, Muhoozi Kainerugaba—known for his controversial online presence—claimed the issue lies with Schauer personally, not Germany as a whole. Chris Magezi, spokesperson for the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, announced the move but did not provide details of military cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile, Germany stated that there is no formal military partnership in place. Both sides offered little detail on the nature of the claims.
