Algeria’s Sahara: The Ancient Desert Opening Its Arms to the World
Algeria’s vast Sahara, once hard to reach, is now welcoming tourists with open arms, thanks to a visa-on-arrival program and improved infrastructure. Guided by experienced Tuareg nomads, visitors can now journey across the breathtaking Tassili n’Ajjer National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with ancient rock art, dramatic formations, and spiritual stillness — and experience the desert as the nomads do. For a week, tourists will traverse the park, described as the world’s largest open-air museum, and witness all it offers. During their one-week adventure, tourists will not bathe. With no electricity, WiFi, or phone reception, they will be cut off from the world. In place of these, they will have the stars for company, tea, exercise, healthy meals, pristine air, and serenity.
