New Kanye West Documentary “In Whose Name?” Reveals Tense Confrontation With Kris Jenner Over Mental Health

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19, 2025 – The new documentary In Whose Name? offers an unflinching look at Kanye West’s turbulent recent years, including a heated exchange with former mother‑in‑law Kris Jenner in which the rapper shouted that he would “rather be dead than be on medication.”

Directed by Nico Ballesteros, the film condenses more than 3,000 hours of footage shot over six years into a 106‑minute portrait of West’s personal and professional struggles. Released nationwide on Sept. 19 through AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, the documentary captures moments of brilliance, breakdowns, and family conflict.

One of the most talked‑about scenes shows West confronting Jenner about his hospitalization and treatment. “Y’all demasculated me and made me feel like a piece of s**t. And the only reason you got away with it is because I was medicated,” he shouts, before insisting he would “rather be dead than be on medication.” Jenner responds tearfully: “It matters to us, and you. It doesn’t matter what the internet says. It matters what we think, Ye.”

The film also revisits West’s 2018 Saturday Night Live appearance, contrasting his fiery onstage MAGA rant with a calmer backstage exchange with comedian Michael Che. Critics have noted the stark difference in West’s reactions to family versus peers.

Beyond family tensions, In Whose Name? explores West’s divorce from Kim Kardashian, his evolving mental health diagnoses, and his controversial public statements. The rapper, who has previously said he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, recently claimed he has autism, telling Justin LaBoy: “It’s really a case of autism that I have.”

Featuring appearances from Drake, Pharrell Williams, Kim Kardashian, and others, the documentary charts West’s transition “from Kanye to Ye,” offering audiences an intimate, often unsettling glimpse into the life of one of music’s most polarizing figures.
