5 Ways Africa’s New Space Agency Could Transform the Continent

Inaugurated in Cairo’s Space City in April 2025, the African Space Agency aims to unify the continent’s 55 nations under a shared vision for space-driven development. To do this, the agency will coordinate and implement Africa’s space ambitions as well as manage its policy and strategy. From utilizing satellite data to boost agriculture and climate resilience, to expanding internet connectivity and pioneering space-based solar power, the agency is set to unlock transformative benefits for the continent. It also promises to drive economic innovation, strengthen global partnerships, and train a new generation of space leaders, with plans for a training academy. The international space economy is projected to hit $1.8 trillion by 2035. With the space agency, Africa can be a beneficiary, not just a bystander.
