Kenya Sides with Morocco in Western Sahara Dispute

Kenya has officially backed Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara, calling it the only credible and realistic path to resolving the decades-long conflict. This stance, announced in a joint statement after diplomatic talks in Rabat, aligns Kenya with a growing list of countries supporting Morocco’s sovereignty over the disputed region. To mark the strengthened ties, Kenya opened an embassy in Rabat, cementing 60 years of diplomatic relations. The two nations also struck deals on fertilizer exports, renewable energy, tourism, and security, among others. Kenya, keen to export more tea, fresh agricultural produce, and coffee to Morocco, also endorsed Rabat’s proposal to connect Sahel nations to Morocco’s Atlantic ports, underscoring both countries’ ambitions for deeper regional cooperation.
