Dangote Named Among World’s Top Philanthropists by TIME

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person, has been named to TIME Magazine’s inaugural TIME100 Philanthropy list, which honors the world’s most influential givers. Each of the 100 honorees was recognized in one of four categories: Titans, Leaders, Trailblazers, and Innovators. Dangote was named one of the 23 Titans, alongside figures like Oprah Winfrey, Michael Bloomberg, and Warren Buffett. He was also the only Nigerian featured on the list. Dangote, worth $23.9 billion, spends over $35 million annually on initiatives ranging from childhood nutrition and vaccination drives to university infrastructure through the Aliko Dangote Foundation. Notably, he endowed his foundation with $1.25 billion in 2014, inspired by a deep-rooted belief in giving back. With efforts like eradicating polio and supporting early education in Nigeria, Dangote is redefining philanthropy in Africa—and hopes to pass that legacy on to his daughters.
