Gates “Horrified” by USAID Cuts, Pledges $200B Over 20 Years

Bill Gates has expressed his horror at the Trump administration’s decision to slash global aid funding, including dismantling USAID, warning that these cuts could cost lives in the world’s most vulnerable regions, including Africa. He said he would lobby the White House and Congress to restore some of the canceled programs. Gates also announced that he’ll give away nearly all his wealth—around $200 billion—over the next 20 years. He plans to do this through the Gates Foundation, which will then be closed at the end of its mission. A huge chunk of Gates’ donation will go to Africa, where the foundation is significantly involved. While Gates acknowledged that philanthropy cannot replace government funding, he expressed optimism about continuing progress in areas like vaccines and primary healthcare.
